COA 6/1 XT Kontur Sub, that's a coax driver and a subwoofer with Vifa 26 WA 550/4, both designed by Gerd Lommersum.

Gerd Lommersum had the brilliant idea to remove the dust cap of a Vifa 17 CN 225/8 with pole piece hole and replaced it with a XT 300/K with a small horn: the ASE 17 CN 225/8-XT was born. This combination we offer for around 190 EUR.

An excerpt of the Hobby HiFi review:

..."After the best location and set-up had been determined the trio performed like a uniform and integrated whole. There was no audible gap between the subwoofer and the satellites. Initially the system disappointed somewhat by playing rather unobtrusively. Continued listening, however, showed a sound that was regarded as pleasant and natural. During longer listening sessions this set-up really pays off: no listening fatigue came up and it became easier to tune into the music. Subtle details were not handed on a plate, the performance was rather unobtrusive. Nevertheless, the presentation of details was convincing.

Three-dimensionality
Width and depth of the sound stage is stable, wandering vocals and instruments just don't exist. This is the main advantage of a coax driver. Sure, there are loudspeaker systems offering more width and depth like e.g. the excellent Cumulus Horn (HOBBY HiFi 6/2005). But then, we have to consider the enormous deployment of material. There are, probably, ways to improve on the ASE Coax' three-dimensionality - the crossover still has some scope for improvement." ...

Verdict: "With his COA 6/1- XT and the Kontur Sub, Gerd Lommersum once again hits the bull's eye. These speakers are extremely musical and offer a stable imaging, typical for coax systems. And the subwoofer is also worth considering in conjunction with other satellites."...
