Excerpt of the review in Klang+Ton 1/2007: ... "After we had placed the speakers away from the walls in our relatively large listening room, it became clear that the little bass drivers were undersized for the premises. But we had to give credit to the designer that he didn't try to blow up the upper base in compensation. Within minutes we got used to the slightly faint sound and we started to appreciate the clean and precise bass despite the lack of oomph. The midrange, adjoining the bass with no audible gap, is extremely precise and shows great attention to detail. Although some passion and dynamics are lacking at lower levels, the performance is never short of detail. If you crank up the volume, however, this slight restraint is forgotten rather quickly: Now the Direct1 got cracking. The ripples - on paper - in the high frequency range were not clearly audible. Sometimes we had the impression that vocalists were lacking some expression and authenticity; superior and much more expensive speakers handled vocals somewhat better. On the other hand, the Direct1 produced an impressive and well defined three-dimensionality with incredible depth and width, like almost no other speaker. Especially acoustic instruments were reproduced with clearly defined outline and they didn't budge. Natural reverberation on a recording created the illusion to sit in a much larger room." ...
