NOVA 3             Building Instruction

Cantare ARG 3 Si To design a loudspeaker with airy tops, equalling the midrange of Pascal or Dirac XT - that was the goal of Dennis Frank and Peter Strassacker. Shortly after the Nova 2 was featured in our newsletter, we received several requests for a Nova / Dirac that is suitable also for smaller listening rooms. Here is the result: Nova 3

The Nova 3 has the following features:

  • even frequency response
  • low tuned bass
  • excellent instrument spacing and imaging
  • neutral reproduction
  • slim design (HxWxD) 113 x 17 x 25 cm (without base)

The lab results are like Nova 2, but the bass below 50 Hz is a bit less powerful.

The Nova 3 kit contains::

  • 1 x Cantare ARG 3 SI ribbon tweeter
  • 2 x Alcone AC 5.25, mid / bass driver, 8 Ohm, magnetically shielded
  • 1 x HP 70 bass reflex tube
  • 1 bi-wiring terminal with gold plated brass binding posts
  • 2 x polyester fleece damping material
  • 1 x crossover - as kit,
      to be mounted on wood,
      components listed in the right column
  • 16 x screws 4 x 20 mm
  • foam sealing tape for drivers
  • 4m Oehlbach Silverline (****) cable, 2x2.5 mm2

In case you prefer to mount the crossover components on a universal PCB instead on wood we recommend to use two boards per loudspeaker:

Nova 3 high end kit

For those who want to top the standard version we suggest a high end crossover:

  • 0.82 mH cfc14 copper coil inductor
  • 0.39 mH air core coil 0.7 mm
  • 0.27 mH backed varnish air core coil 0.7 mm
  • 3.3 uF Mundorf MCAP supreme
  • 10 uF Mundorf MCAP supreme
  • 1.5 uF MKP capacitor
  • 3.9 uF MKP capacitor
  • 4.7 Ohm MOX10 resistor (yellow-purple-gold)
  • 2x 3.3 Ohm MOX10 resistor (orange-orange-gold)
  • 8.2 Ohm MOX10 resistor (grey-red-gold)

This version shows an even higher precision.
