Alcone Pascal XT

new June/2004: due to high demand also with finished crossover.

Pascal was developed jointly by ASE, Mr Gerd Lommersum and us. According to listening test in our studio the result is extraordinary. The speaker competes favourably with our most expensive models regarding transparency, dimensional and natural sound.

This was confirmed by the magazine Hobby Hifi 1/2004 issue 1/2004 At the end of the review some remarks by the developers are added.

The 2-way floorstanding speaker Pascal XT is an Alcone-VIFA kit, consisting of a ring radiator Vifa XT 300 and two Alcone AC6.5 HE. Alcone Pascal XT
 

The Pascal XT features the following characteristics:

  • bass response optimized for positioning close to the wall
  • in addition a very clean bass
  • extremely balanced sound and three-dimensionality
  • high transparency
  • dry and pleasant bass
  • beautiful, slim design (height x width x depth): 110 x 23 x 28 cm

Technical Data:

  • frequency response: 37-30 000 Hz (-8dB)
  • crossover frequency: 2700 Hz
  • Sound pressure level at rated input: 92 dB (2,83V/1m)
  • Impedance: 4 Ohm

The Acone Pascal XT kit consists of:

  • 1 x tweeter VIFA XT-300 KS/4, 4 Ohm
  • 2 x bass / midrange Alcone AC 6.5 HE, 8 Ohm
  • 1 x bi-wiring terminal with gold plated brass binding posts
  • 2 x bags damping material (1/2 bag for upper part)
  • 1 x crossover - for crossover kit please see below
  • 18 x screws 4 x 20 mm
  • foam seals for drivers
  • 4 m cable for internal wiring 2x1,5 mm2)

The crossover consists of:
  • Air-core coil 1,0 mH / 1,4 mm
  • 2 x air-core coil 0,15 mH / 0,7 mm
  • 2 x MKP capacitor 4,7 uF / 400 V
  • Mundorf MKP capacitor 10 uF / 400 V
  • Mundorf MKP capacitor 22 uF / 400 V
  • MOX10 resistor 1,2 Ohm (brown-red-gold)
  • MOX10 resistor 1,5 Ohm (brown-green-gold)

The frequency response is quite linear. The mid-frequencies didn't have to be reduced (often necessary to reduce presence).

Due to high demand a high quality finished crossover with air-core coils, metallic oxide resistors and MKP capacitors, as well as Audyn CAPS in the high frequency path are available.

Should top quality components be required, we suggest the following two improvements:
- the use of XT-300 VS/4 with metal plate instead of plastic
- 1 x 1 mH air-core coil with 2,0 mm instead of 1,4 mm wire diameter

- selected pairs of XT 300 with metal plate,
- silver coated cables for the interior wiring,

- 1 x sheep's wool for damping and 4 x Bawotumex (bitumen with cotton cover) for the walls
