The Voice 2: large floorstander featured in Hobby HiFi 4/07

The Voice 2 aus HH 4/2007
Technical data
- rated SPL: 94 dB (2.83V, 1m)
- frequency range (-3dB): 38 - 25 kHz
- impedance: 6 Ohm
- crossover frequencies: 2000 Hz
- size (HxWxD): 120 x 45 x 45 cm
- speaker type: bass reflex

The project The Voice 2 aimed at producing a speaker with high efficiency using reasonably priced drivers.

Bernd Timmermanns used a Gradient 195 ribbon tweeter with horn, increasing the efficiency considerably. The bass driver chosen was the P.Audio WN-15R.

For those who believe that the tapered form of the cabinet is too extravagant, we recommend to built a rectangular case. Depth should then be reduced to 38 cm to ensure that the volume remains the same.

The cabinet has quite a few bracing panels to prevent unwanted vibration.

Excerpt of the review in Hobby HiFi 4/2007

"The Voice 2 is really powerful. The impressive and large speakers suggest clearly that they can get cracking. Expressive timbre, clean and silky tops and above all a mightily deep and bone-dry bass are overwhelming at any volume from pianissimo to fortissimo. The Voice 2 also didn't have a preference for any particular music style: "Peter Gunn" by "The Art Of Noise" was hammered into the listening room with a barrage of bass and we really enjoyed "Provision" by Scritti Politti. However, also some more subtle notes like the ones to be found on the Manger test CD were reproduced beautifully."

Our The Voice 2 price/performance version (components on the left)
Price per speaker (without cabinet)   EUR 22,-

Our The Voice 2 kit, high-end version (components on the right) and higher quality, self-adhesive damping material (Damping 30)
Price per speaker (without cabinet)   - not available

If you prefer to mount the crossover components on a universal PCB instead on wood, we recommend one PCB per speaker:
PCB 220x155 mm, Order No. I-8805002,     Price   EUR 8,80

If you prefer not to use the drainpipes available in hardware stores, we recommend BR HP 100 tubes. Since they have a smaller diameter two are needed per speaker (arranged next to one another), for two speakers you need four.
BR HP 100 tube (length 130 mm), Order No. I-8805002,     Price   EUR 3,90

If you want to use a valve amp with these speakers we recommend an impedance correction with the following components:
- 0.68 mH air core coil/0.7 mm
- 68 uF ELCO, non-etched
- 6.8 Ohm resistor consisting of 2 x 22 Ohm and 1 x 18 Ohm resistors in parallel
(otherwise the power handling would be too low)
Price per impedance correction to be mounted on wood   EUR 10,40

Please note:
If you prefer to mount the crossover components on a universal PCB instead on wood (1 PCB per speaker is needed):
PCB 205x140 mm, tinned, price per unit: EUR 8,80
